I have been studying photography for about 40 years. I took my first picture with my Dad’s Canon AE1, and I knew right off that it was something special, and it would be part of who I am for a long time.

Think about today, everyone that has a phone has a pretty decent camera. 40 years ago, that wasn’t possible. So being able to print a photograph, and hold it in your hand, that was special.

I think that it relates today to being able to print off these large format, high quality, vibrant photos, especially being able to print onto mediums such as acrylics and metals. To unpack these prints makes me think of going to the camera store, or the pharmacy to pick up the photos from my camera. The only difference is today, you have a good idea of what you’re going to get. Back then, well…it was all up in the air.
